nothing going on. Not even in an interesting way. Just nothing. Guess Pineiro’s out. Oh, we might sign Preston Wilson. Hooray. Wake me when something happens.

Non tenders
December 13, 2006Never was comfortable having a Sosa on the team anyway.
Count me interested in non-tendered Joel Pineiro.

Webb wins NL Cy Young
November 14, 2006ESPN.com – MLB – D-Backs’ Webb wins wide-open NL Cy Young race
St. Louis Cardinals ace Chris Carpenter, the 2005 Cy Young Award winner, finished third with two first-place votes and 63 points.Houston’s Roy Oswalt, who led the NL with a 2.98 ERA, got the other three first-place selections and came in fourth.
Webb, who went 16-8 with a 3.10 ERA, was listed second on seven ballots and third on seven others. No pitcher was included on every entry.
I don’t get how anyone could leave Carpenter off a ballot. These awards are sketchy. They should make it a public record of who voted for what. That way if someone is consistently high when voting, they can be removed.

Gonzo?
November 13, 2006Luis Gonzalez rumored to be close to signing a 1 year deal with the Cards. Not a bad option. At least he can catch the ball. So who sits, Encarnacion or Duncan?

Edmonds, Wooo!
November 11, 2006Edmonds signs a two year deal worth $8 million per year with an additional $3 million in deferred money. Sounds good to me. Now maybe they can find a suitable replacement for 2009. Next resign Belliard. I’m getting antsy waiting on these free agent signings.

irrational thought
November 10, 2006I know it will never happen, but now that Drew is a free agent, maybe we can bring him back home. He’s over thirty, so maybe Tony will like him now. I’m sure he’ll be asking for big money, as he is giving up $11 million a year for three years right now. My gut says he lands in Boston. As long as he’s not a Cub, right? I’ve never been very rational when it comes to certain players. Drew, Edmonds, Ankiel, Tito Landrum. I always have the utmost confidence in them that no matter what has happened recently, they are about to go off. So bring home Drew and sign Edmonds. And get me Jason Schmidt and Barry Zito while you’re at it. It’s only money. And not my money at that.

Belly (re)up?
November 9, 2006So the Padres traded 2B Josh Barfield to the Indians. That could be good news for Cardinal fans. At least Cardinal fans who liked Ronnie Belliard. Cleveland had been rumored to desperately want Belliard back and was going to pursue him this offseason. Now that they have a 2B, I think the Cardinals have the best shot of resigning Belliard. How long has it been since the Cards had the same 2B for two years? Vina?

“We will be filing for free agency,” Suppan’s agent, Scott Leventhal, said yesterday. “We have had no conversation with the Cardinals.”
